Dartmouth MLA Graduates Achieve 100% Pass Rate on CSMLS Exam

Willis College’s latest Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) cohort has achieved a 100% pass rate on the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) certification exam, written in June.

Once again, Willis College students exceeded the national results in every category, a result we’re proud to celebrate, and an important milestone for each of the 26 graduates who worked to get here.

Why the CSMLS Certification Exam Matters

For Medical Laboratory Assistant graduates, finishing school is only one part of preparing for the profession.

The CSMLS is Canada’s national certifying body for Medical Laboratory Assistants. Its certification exam is designed to assess whether candidates can apply the skills and knowledge expected of someone entering the profession.

That means the exam goes beyond remembering what was taught in a textbook. It looks at whether graduates are ready to apply their training to the kind of situations and responsibilities they will encounter as Medical Laboratory Assistants.

CSMLS certification is also a nationally recognized professional credential, helping graduates demonstrate to employers that they have met national standards for entry into the field.

Strong results on this exam have become a consistent trend for our MLA program. Seeing our graduates continue to perform above national results is a strong reflection of the preparation they receive before entering the profession, and of their own hard work.

Preparing for More Than an Exam

At Willis College, preparing students for the CSMLS exam and preparing them for the workplace go hand in hand.

Students in the Medical Laboratory Assistant program at our Dartmouth campus build their knowledge in the classroom while developing practical skills through hands-on laboratory training. The goal isn’t simply to help students pass an exam. It’s to help them understand how to apply what they’ve learned safely, accurately and professionally once they enter the workforce.

That’s why results like these matter.

A 100% pass rate is worth celebrating on its own. But it also represents 26 graduates reaching an important professional milestone and showing that they are ready for what comes next.
