Language Requirements

Language Proficiency

English is the language of instruction and examination at Willis College. If English is not your first language, you must demonstrate proficiency in order to begin studies in certain in-person programs. 

You can verify your proficiency by providing either an accepted test score or transcripts showing accepted English training or prior studies in English.

English Assessment Score

You can demonstrate you’ve met the English proficiency requirement if you provide a test score showing that you have met the minimum scores in all bands/assessment categories of the test as presented below. Only official results dated within the last two years are accepted. Please see below for the minimum scores required for each language assessment test:

Proof of Prior English Studies

You can demonstrate that you meet the proficiency requirements if you can provide transcripts, credentials, or a certificate of completion from an accredited institution where English is the language of instruction. Both studies at a partner English language school and/or studies at a secondary or post-secondary institution where English is the language of instruction are accepted as long as they meet the requirements outlined below.

English Language Training

You are exempt from needing to provide a test score if you complete an English language training program at one of our pathway partners. Please see below for details regarding Willis College’s language school partners and the required minimum level that must be completed at each institution: 

  • ACLA – ACLA’s Pathway Program – Level 6
  • ALCC – ALCC’s University Bridging Program- UBP
  • CBLC – CBLC’s Bridge Course Level
  • CLLC University Pathway – CLLC’s Pathway Program 1 – Level 6
  • ILAC – ILAC’s Pathway Program Level 3.2

Studies at an English Institution 

You are exempt from needing to provide a test score or completing an English language pathway, if you can provide transcripts showing you completed a minimum of two years (60 credit hours or 1200 instructional hours) of consecutive, full-time studies at a secondary or post secondary level at an institution where English was the language of instruction.

*Please note, certain programs have higher minimum English proficiency requirements.

**Programs offered through Willis College’s Online Campus do not currently require proof of language proficiency.
